Barcelona Planning Left-Back Shake-Up

Barcelona are reportedly preparing to sell young full-back Gerard Martín in order to raise funds to bring back Alejandro Grimaldo, the former La Masia talent now thriving at Bayer Leverkusen.

🔹 Martín’s Situation:

Though the 22-year-old recently extended his deal until 2028, the club sees him as expendable to clear room in the squad and balance finances.

🔹 Grimaldo’s Appeal:

Grimaldo, now 29, has impressed with his consistency and versatility in Germany. His high output, Champions League experience, and La Masia roots make him an ideal reinforcement to compete with or back up Alejandro Balde.

🔹 The Strategy:

By offloading Martín—via sale or loan—Barça aims to free up funds and a squad slot for a more experienced, top-performing option on the left flank. Grimaldo is expected to cost around €20M–40M, a fee the club believes is worth the upgrade.

In short: Barcelona want to upgrade their left-back depth by moving on from Gerard Martín and bringing home a battle-tested

Grimaldo.
