UEFA Nations League MVP Nuno Mendes gives his opinion on 2025 Ballon d’Or battle between Dembele and Yamal

Nuno Mendes delivered a standout performance in Portugal’s thrilling 2-2 (5-3 on penalties) victory over Spain in the UEFA Nations League final.

The full-back scored a stunning goal, effectively neutralized Lamine Yamal, and played a key role in setting up Cristiano Ronaldo’s strike.

His exceptional display earned him the title of Nations League Player of the Tournament following the match.

Following the match, the PSG defender was asked to share his thoughts on the frontrunner for the 2025 Ballon d’Or.

He responded: “I don’t have a strong opinion on the Ballon d’Or. I played alongside Ousmane Dembélé at club level, and he had an outstanding season. Lamine also had a fantastic year.”

“Both stood out this season. One of them won’t be playing in the Club World Cup, while Dembélé will.”

Mendes appears to suggest that participation in the FIFA Club World Cup could boost Dembélé’s chances in the Ballon d’Or race.

Two new names emerge in the 2025 Ballon d’Or power rankings following the UEFA Nations League final.
