Liverpool seem to be nearing their next signing of the summer transfer window, with final talks expected to happen in the coming days.
After clinching their 20th league title in what was a remarkable debut season for Arne Slot, there’s a strong sense of optimism at Anfield. The team surpassed expectations under their new manager and is now aiming to strengthen the squad further to stay competitive both domestically and in European competitions.
Despite the departure of Trent Alexander-Arnold earlier this summer, Liverpool acted swiftly by signing Jeremie Frimpong from Bayer Leverkusen as his replacement. They also added promising Hungarian goalkeeper Armin Pecsi to bolster squad depth. However, more changes could be on the way, with players such as Luis Díaz, Darwin Núñez, Harvey Elliott, Joe Gomez, and Jarell Quansah all rumored to be potential departures.
Liverpool’s recruitment efforts are now focused on strengthening four key areas: striker, winger, attacking midfielder, and left-back. Two names continue to lead their shortlist—Florian Wirtz of Bayer Leverkusen and Bournemouth’s Milos Kerkez.
While Liverpool have submitted multiple sizable offers for Wirtz, they are reportedly hesitant to meet Leverkusen’s full valuation and hope to negotiate a more favorable deal for the highly rated German international.
On the other hand, negotiations for Kerkez appear to be more straightforward. The 20-year-old left-back had a standout season with Bournemouth and is viewed as the ideal long-term successor to Andy Robertson.
According to a Tuesday morning update from respected journalist David Ornstein via The Athletic, talks involving Liverpool, Bournemouth, and Kerkez’s representatives are scheduled for this week. There is growing optimism that an agreement will be reached soon.
Bournemouth, meanwhile, are already preparing for Kerkez’s exit, reportedly targeting Rennes left-back Adrien Truffert as a potential replacement—though that move hinges on Kerkez’s finalized transfer to Liverpool.
With negotiations advancing, Liverpool appear to be on the verge of securing their third signing of the summer.
