A potential swap deal between Barcelona and Milan sets the market on fir,e and the vic,tim is Araújo

Barcelona and AC Milan Near Major Swap Deal Involving Araújo and Leão

Barcelona and AC Milan are reportedly close to finalizing one of the most unexpected and thrilling swap deals in recent years — a move that could significantly reshape both squads ahead of the upcoming season. Each club has identified key players in the other’s lineup, and with mutual interest now aligning, a formal agreement appears to be within reach.

Barcelona’s Uruguayan center-back Ronald Araújo, once considered a mainstay in the team’s defense, is currently facing a turbulent phase in his career. His form has dipped notably, leading to harsh criticism after key mistakes — particularly in the Champions League, where he was partly blamed for Barcelona’s back-to-back exits. He has also lost his place in the starting eleven.

Despite signing a recent contract extension, Barcelona president Joan Laporta and sporting director Deco are reportedly open to parting ways with Araújo, as long as suitable offers are presented.

On the other side, AC Milan is keen on signing the defender, seeing him as a strong solution for their defensive needs. However, they are reluctant to match Barcelona’s €60 million price tag. Instead, the Italian club is exploring a potential swap deal that could involve Portuguese forward Rafael Leão.

Although highly talented, Leão has underperformed this season at San Siro, with both inconsistent play and concerns about his professionalism leading Milan to consider selling him. Barcelona has long admired Leão, but his price tag — reportedly over €100 million — has been a major hurdle.

With super-agent Jorge Mendes now involved and Barcelona eager to add firepower up front, Leão is back on the radar. Since both players hold relatively comparable market values, a straight swap — without added financial demands — is being seriously considered.

Such a deal is appealing to Barcelona, as it allows them to reinforce their attack without compromising financial stability. If finalized, the Leão-Araújo exchange could become one of the most talked-about and strategically impactful transfers of the summer.
