Hansi Flick makes his decision and chooses the team’s new striker, with the official joining date now set.

Barcelona Eyes Julián Álvarez as Lewandowski’s Long-Term Successor

Following a phenomenal season in which Barcelona clinched the domestic treble, the club’s leadership is now shifting focus toward building a squad capable of conquering Europe once again. With sights firmly set on Champions League success, preparations for the upcoming transfer windows are already underway.

Despite Robert Lewandowski’s outstanding contribution last season—scoring 42 goals and helping secure La Liga, the Copa del Rey, and the Spanish Super Cup—Barcelona is preparing for the future. At 36, the Polish striker remains a key figure, but the club is looking to secure his long-term replacement.

According to reports from Cadena SER, new head coach Hansi Flick has identified Julián Álvarez, the Argentine forward currently playing for Atlético Madrid, as his top target to lead the attack in the coming seasons.

However, a transfer this summer is not on the cards. Instead, Barcelona aims to bring Álvarez in for the 2026–27 season, allowing Lewandowski to remain the main striker for one more year.

Securing Álvarez will be a major financial challenge. Atlético Madrid signed him from Manchester City for €75 million just last year, and his release clause is a staggering €500 million. Nonetheless, Barcelona appears determined to pursue the talented attacker as part of its long-term vision.
