Opinion: The Bold Liverpool Swap Deal Involving Darwin Núñez That Could Land Victor Osimhen

Liverpool are exploring the possibility of securing a new centre-forward this summer, amid growing speculation about Darwin Núñez’s future at Anfield.

With an eye on strengthening their attack to boost their Premier League title defense, the Reds are again being guided by the prolific Mohamed Salah. The Egyptian star wrapped up another exceptional season with 34 goals and 23 assists in all competitions, clinching his fourth Premier League Golden Boot in the process.

New head coach Arne Slot is reportedly seeking a reliable striker to complement Salah in the front three. One of Liverpool’s top targets is Victor Osimhen, and a potential swap deal involving Núñez could be the key to landing the Napoli striker.

Liverpool’s Renewed Interest in Osimhen

Speculation is mounting that Osimhen will leave Napoli this summer, with several top clubs showing long-standing interest in the 26-year-old. Despite interest from Saudi Arabia—including a lucrative offer reportedly worth £650,000 per week—Osimhen appears focused on a move within Europe and is said to be open to lowering his wage demands.

Liverpool have identified him as a top candidate in their search for a new No.9, according to GiveMeSport. A swap deal could emerge as a mutually beneficial solution, especially as Napoli prepares to rebuild their forward line.

Napoli’s Interest in Núñez and Chiesa

Italian journalist Alfredo Pedullà has reported that Napoli are closely monitoring two Liverpool players—Darwin Núñez and Federico Chiesa—as they plan for life after Osimhen. Chiesa, who has reportedly grown disillusioned with his role at Liverpool, may also be open to a summer departure after limited opportunities under Slot.

Napoli are said to have a “strong interest” in Núñez as a replacement for Osimhen. Given Núñez’s mixed performances at Anfield and Liverpool’s possible difficulty in recouping his full transfer fee on the open market, a player exchange could benefit both clubs.

Such a deal would see Liverpool acquire a proven, consistent striker in Osimhen, while Napoli receive a dynamic forward in Núñez and a long-admired target in Chiesa. Reports from The Athletic also indicate that Liverpool are willing to consider offers for both Núñez and Chiesa in this window.

With all three players seemingly open to new opportunities, the conditions are ripe for a swap deal that aligns with each club’s summer objectives.
