Liverpool may finally be ready to strengthen a key area in their defense, as one of their Premier League rivals finalizes their transfer plans.
According to Sky Sports News reporter Mark McAdam, Bournemouth’s acquisition of Adrien Truffert could “open the door” for Milos Kerkez to make a move to Anfield. Discussions have reportedly been ongoing between Liverpool and Bournemouth regarding the 21-year-old left-back in recent weeks.
Kerkez, who featured in 41 matches last season and represents Hungary alongside Dominik Szoboszlai, is being seen as a possible long-term successor to Andy Robertson.
With Truffert’s £14.4 million move from Rennes now confirmed, Liverpool could be in a better position to act.
“Truffert’s arrival at Bournemouth is expected to clear the way for Kerkez to join Liverpool,” McAdam said.
While no official bid has been made yet, Sky Sports News believes Bournemouth view Truffert as Kerkez’s replacement.
The Hungarian full-back still has three years remaining on his contract and is reportedly valued at around £45 million.
Potential Squad Shake-Up at Liverpool
Kerkez’s signing could bring changes beyond just the first-team selection.
Speculation has increased about Andy Robertson possibly heading to Atletico Madrid, raising questions about whether he’d be willing to take on a lesser role at this point in his career.
Since arriving in 2017, Robertson has been a consistent performer for the Reds, but at 31, he may be unwilling to play second fiddle.
Meanwhile, Kostas Tsimikas has shown he’s comfortable being a backup, meaning a reshuffle could result in Robertson leaving and the Greek staying — a move that’s likely to divide opinions.
Robertson’s leadership and influence have been crucial for Liverpool, and replacing that off-field presence may prove more difficult than filling his on-field role — even if Kerkez, with his pace and energy, fits the mold of a modern full-back.
Recent social media activity from Kerkez and his family suggests that a move to Liverpool is close.
If the transfer goes through, it could become a headline deal of the summer — not just because of who Liverpool would gain, but also due to the legacy they might be parting with.
