Report: Liverpool launch ambitious move to sign ‘relentless’ striker in swap deal

Liverpool have taken an ambitious step in the summer transfer market, reportedly entering talks with Napoli over a potential swap deal involving Darwin Núñez and Federico Chiesa in exchange for star striker Victor Osimhen, according to Teamtalk.

As the Premier League champions look to bolster their forward line for the upcoming season, Osimhen has emerged as a key target who could elevate their attacking threat.

With Darwin Núñez struggling to consistently deliver, new manager Arne Slot is prepared to refresh the attack by bringing in a reliable goal scorer to share the offensive workload alongside Mohamed Salah.

Serie A Clubs Interested in Núñez

Both Napoli and AC Milan have shown interest in signing Núñez this summer. Liverpool are looking to capitalize on Napoli’s interest by proposing a deal that would bring Osimhen to Anfield.

The Nigerian international, who spent last season on loan at Galatasaray, is expected to make a permanent move away from Napoli. His standout campaign saw him net 37 goals, reaffirming his credentials as one of the game’s elite strikers.

With Liverpool coming off a title-winning season, the club is now focused on adding top-tier talent to its roster. The recent signing of Jeremie Frimpong highlights this ambition.

Additionally, Arne Slot is close to finalizing deals for Florian Wirtz from Bayer Leverkusen and Milos Kerkez from Bournemouth, reinforcing his commitment to maintaining Liverpool’s dominance in English football.

Osimhen Could Be a Game-Changer

Osimhen’s arrival would signal a major statement of intent from Liverpool. His pace, power, and goal-scoring ability could dramatically transform the Reds’ attack and provide the kind of cutting edge needed to remain at the top of the game.

Victor Osimhen is widely recognized as one of the world’s elite strikers, praised for his explosive pace, physical power, and lethal finishing ability.

Preliminary talks indicate that Darwin Núñez and Federico Chiesa could be included in a direct swap deal for the Nigerian forward.

Such a swap could help offset part of Napoli’s €75 million (£63 million) release clause for Osimhen, although the Italian club still expects to receive a significant financial return.

Osimhen’s representatives have already been contacted and are believed to favor a move to a Champions League-caliber club, making Liverpool’s qualification for Europe’s premier competition a vital factor in negotiations.

Speaking on the striker’s potential, Nigeria captain William Troost‑Ekong shared his belief that Osimhen is destined for the Premier League. He said:

“His tenacity stands out — he’s relentless and chases every ball. He’s exceptional in the air, and whether it’s a one-on-one in the box or a cross coming in, he’ll find a way to score.”
