Liverpool Step Up Pursuit of Promising Young Talent Amid Premier League Interest
Liverpool are reportedly stepping up their efforts to sign a highly-rated young talent who is also drawing attention from several other Premier League clubs.
While fans await official confirmation of Florian Wirtz’s high-profile move from Bayer Leverkusen — with a medical reportedly scheduled for Friday (via David Ornstein) — and with Milos Kerkez’s transfer from Bournemouth said to be “virtually completed,” according to his father, Liverpool’s transfer activity may not be over just yet.
Although Gregg Evans of The Athletic has indicated that Liverpool’s main summer business may conclude following those two signings, sporting director Richard Hughes is still monitoring further targets across Europe.
Liverpool Open Talks with Malick Fofana’s New Agents
According to L’Equipe, Liverpool have begun discussions with the representatives of Malick Fofana, shortly after the Lyon winger signed with Roc Nation — the same agency that handles players like Vinicius Junior, Gabriel Martinelli, Endrick, and Kevin De Bruyne.
Chelsea have also initiated contact regarding the 20-year-old, who is reportedly being tracked by Manchester United and Nottingham Forest as well. Lyon, facing financial difficulties, have placed a €50 million (£42.7 million) price tag on the player.
Do Liverpool Really Need Another Left Winger?
Liverpool’s interest in Fofana was first reported by CaughtOffside last month, and he remains a key target for FSG as they aim to outmaneuver several league rivals.
Fofana, who mainly plays on the left wing, recorded 11 goals and six assists in 41 matches last season (according to Transfermarkt). Talent scout Jacek Kulig praised his ability in one-on-one situations, and his 6.72 progressive carries per game put him among the top 2% of players in his position across Europe’s top five leagues (via FBref).
Currently, Liverpool already have options on the left in Cody Gakpo and Luis Diaz. However, ongoing uncertainty over Diaz’s future could make Fofana a more pressing target.
With his new agents and Lyon’s financial pressure, a summer move seems likely — though whether Fofana ends up at Anfield remains to be seen in the weeks ahead.
