Alexander Isak Identified as Liverpool’s “Dream Target” for Centre-Forward Role
Alexander Isak has been described as Liverpool’s “dream target” as the club looks to strengthen its attack in what has already been a busy summer transfer window.
With imminent deals for Florian Wirtz and Milos Kerkez close to completion, Liverpool plan to turn their attention to signing a new No. 9. However, this move might come later in the window as several factors unfold — including the future of Darwin Núñez, who is drawing interest from Napoli, AC Milan, Atlético Madrid, and clubs in Saudi Arabia.
Liverpool may choose to be patient until the perfect player becomes available, but from the outset, Isak has been regarded as their top choice.
Liverpool Eye Alexander Isak But Hugo Ekitike Emerges as Serious Alternative
Liverpool remain intent on bolstering their attacking options this summer, with Alexander Isak top of their wish list for the No. 9 role — according to transfer insider Fabrizio Romano, who noted on Threads that any deal with Newcastle United would be “complicated.”
Complicated, however, is not impossible. Newcastle are pushing to qualify for the Champions League and, with Isak under contract until 2028 and talks already underway to extend it further, they could demand as much as £150 million for the Swedish striker.
Despite the high price, Liverpool’s interest is persistent. Lewis Steele of the Mail and Ian Doyle of the Liverpool Echo have both underlined that the Reds haven’t given up on a move.
“The noise that I’ve got is that they are not done and they will go for a No. 9,” Steele explained on YouTube. “Isak’s agents have already had talks with Liverpool and other clubs. It looks very tricky, and I’m not going to say I have a sneaky feeling on this one like I did with Florian Wirtz — but the noise is always there.”
That said, Liverpool might wait for the right moment, even if that means returning for Isak next summer.
Ekitike as the Plan B?
If a move for Isak cannot materialize this window and Liverpool want to bolster the attack immediately, the alternative could be Hugo Ekitike. The Eintracht Frankfurt striker is also on Chelsea and Manchester United’s radar, but as The Athletic’s Sebastian Stafford-Bloor reports, Anfield could be his preferred destination.
Romano confirmed as much: “Liverpool already spoke to the agents of the player at the end of May. They are in regular contact, so for sure Ekitike remains a concrete target for Liverpool.”
RB Leipzig’s Benjamin Šeško and Atlético Madrid’s Julián Álvarez have also been linked with Liverpool, though the latter looks less likely.
