Florian Wirtz is expected to be officially announced as a Liverpool player very soon.
The club is reportedly focusing on finalizing Wirtz’s transfer before turning its attention to securing a deal for Bournemouth’s Milos Kerkez.
Wirtz will join a squad that already includes former Bayer Leverkusen teammate Jeremie Frimpong and summer signing Armin Pecsi from Puskas Akademia.
This wave of transfer activity comes in the wake of the summer transfer window reopening on Monday, June 16.
When will the Wirtz deal be confirmed?
Sky Germany’s Florian Plettenberg reports that the official announcement is expected on Friday.
All contractual terms between Liverpool and Leverkusen are said to be agreed upon, with only Wirtz’s medical pending. He hasn’t completed it yet due to being on holiday.
Liverpool have reportedly agreed to pay £100 million upfront, with an additional £16 million in performance-related bonuses — tied to achievements like winning the Premier League, Champions League, or Wirtz winning the Ballon d’Or.
What will Wirtz earn at Liverpool?
While early reports speculated Wirtz could earn over £300,000 per week, more reliable sources suggest a more modest figure.
According to The Athletic, Liverpool sporting director Richard Hughes has negotiated a wage package around £200,000 per week, supplemented by performance-related incentives — in line with the club’s standard wage structure, similar to Mo Salah’s.
Is this Liverpool’s most expensive transfer ever?
Yes — in terms of upfront cost, the £100 million fee sets a new club record.
The previous highest was £75 million for Virgil van Dijk. While Darwin Núñez might exceed that total if all performance bonuses are met, Wirtz now holds the record for the largest guaranteed sum.
This move marks a significant investment in a highly promising young player, showing Liverpool’s ambition and belief in Wirtz’s potential.
