Suddenly in the game!’ – Reliable journo drops Liverpool transfer bombshell on Sunday evening

Bayern Munich remain determined in their pursuit of a top Liverpool star this summer.

The German champions had been strongly linked with a move for Cody Gakpo earlier in the transfer window.

However, the Dutch forward appears content to stay put at Anfield, especially after his compatriot Arne Slot guided Liverpool to an outstanding start to the 2024/25 campaign.

As a result, Bayern are now broadening their Premier League search to bolster their left wing — and they’ve set their sights on Luis Díaz.

It looks highly unlikely that Luis Díaz will secure a dream move to Barcelona this summer.

Liverpool have no intention of letting their No.7 go on the cheap after an outstanding individual campaign. More importantly, Barça are thought to be prioritising a move for Athletic Club’s local star Nico Williams.

That opens the door for Bayern Munich, who, according to Empire of the Kop, are also serious admirers of the Spanish winger.

Christian Falk of CF Bayern Insider reports: “Sporting director Max Eberl has shifted his attention to another of Arne Slot’s standout performers: Colombian left winger Luis Díaz.

“This opportunity arose after Real Madrid decided against selling Rodrygo. Xabi Alonso has no desire to part with the Brazilian — despite Díaz already having reached a preliminary agreement with Los Blancos. Now Bayern have entered the race!”

How much is Díaz worth?
Guillem Balague suggests Liverpool would demand close to £100m for the Colombian international.

That kind of price would almost certainly rule out Barcelona, who are already scrambling to meet the asking price for Williams.

That said, if the player pushes for a move and the circumstances allow, Liverpool might be prepared to accept a lower fee.

What’s Liverpool’s position?
To be clear, Liverpool aren’t actively trying to sell Díaz, nor are they looking to jump at the first big-money offer.

Despite a substantial investment in Florian Wirtz (£100m up front, plus £16m in add-ons), Liverpool remain comfortably compliant with Profit and Sustainability Rules — with or without a high-profile sale.

That being said, they’re also not rushing to tie Díaz down to a long-term extension, which leaves the door slightly ajar for a potential departure under the right conditions.

As it stands, however, the expectation is that the 28-year-old will still be a Liverpool player when the transfer window closes on September 1.
