New Alexander Isak transfer bombshell that nobody saw coming drops and it changes everything

Liverpool handed huge boost in pursuit of Alexander Isak

Liverpool have been given a major boost in their quest to sign Newcastle United striker Alexander Isak.

Fresh off winning the Premier League title in his debut season at Anfield, manager Arne Slot is wasting no time strengthening his squad ahead of the new campaign.

Right-back Jeremie Frimpong became Liverpool’s first summer signing — replacing Trent Alexander-Arnold — before former Bayer Leverkusen teammate Florian Wirtz followed in a record-breaking Premier League deal just days later.

And it looks like the Reds aren’t done yet. According to new reports, Liverpool are preparing to step up their pursuit of top target Alexander Isak.

With Darwin Núñez expected to leave this summer, it was already clear that Liverpool would be searching for a new striker — but Isak is seen as the dream signing despite the potential complications and steep price.

Although prising him away from Newcastle is no easy task, a new report in The Times suggests that the financial obstacles may not be as significant as first thought. Liverpool have the funds and flexibility under the Premier League’s spending rules to test Newcastle’s resolve.

That’s worrying for the Magpies, who are already bracing for a formal offer as early as July.

In response, Newcastle are looking to tie Isak down to a new contract that would make him their top earner — surpassing the £120,000 per week in his current deal.

Bruno Guimarães and Anthony Gordon are Newcastle’s highest-paid players at £160,000 per week, so matching Liverpool’s financial muscle will not be easy, especially with Newcastle still working within strict Profit and Sustainability Rules (PSR).

If Liverpool follow through with their interest, it could be one of the most significant transfer battles of the summer.
