Real Madrid fans have defended Trent Alexander-Arnold after Liverpool supporters expressed their anger on an Instagram post.
Earlier this month, Alexander-Arnold was officially unveiled as a Real Madrid player after deciding to leave boyhood club Liverpool.
Over the last two weeks, the 26-year-old full-back has already made his first two appearances for Los Blancos at the FIFA Club World Cup — most recently impressing during Madrid’s 3-1 win over Pachuca.
However, some social media activity from his brother Marcell has caused controversy. Posting a series of photos on Instagram, Marcell captioned them: “That was just negative energy for us to feed off…”
This did not go down well with some Liverpool fans. One replied: “The negative energy is you having no respect for the fanbase that supported your boy.”
Another wrote: “Negative energy is leaving on a free, don’t complain about something you started.”
A third added: “So what you’re saying is Liverpool was negative.”
Despite the backlash from Liverpool supporters, Madrid fans rushed to their new signing’s defense:
“Welcome to Madrid bro, ignore the negative energy in the comments.”
“Hala Madrid.”
“Hala Madrid and nothing else!”
Speaking after the Pachuca game, Jude Bellingham heaped praise on his new teammate:
“He’s been really good. The lads have taken to him well because not only is he an amazing player, but he’s a great guy too. Obviously, he’s already speaking a bit of Spanish, so all the lads were impressed by that. It’s been really nice.”
“Listen, it’s all good, it’s just about enjoying himself. Obviously, the pressure is going to be insane, but I told him he’s here for a reason — he’ll do great things for this club and I think he already believed that. He’s got that confidence, so yeah, it’s really nice to have him.”
Alexander-Arnold and Madrid will be back in action on Thursday when they take on Austrian outfit RB Salzburg at Lincoln Financial Field.
