Liverpool have reached a full agreement with Bournemouth for the transfer of their talented left-back in a deal worth £40 million.

Liverpool Seal £40m Deal for Milos Kerkez in Major Summer Move

Liverpool have reached a £40 million agreement with Bournemouth to sign Hungarian left-back Milos Kerkez, with the 21-year-old scheduled to undergo a medical today, June 24, 2025, on Merseyside. The high-profile transfer represents one of the marquee moves of the summer window and underscores the club’s intent to strengthen key areas as they look to defend their Premier League crown under manager Arne Slot.

Kerkez is expected to sign a five-year deal that will keep him at Anfield until 2030, with the official announcement likely to follow swiftly after the completion of medical tests and final paperwork.

The Hungary international joined Bournemouth from AZ Alkmaar in July 2023 for £15.5 million and has since emerged as one of the Premier League’s most impressive young defenders. He featured in all 38 league matches last season, contributing two goals and six assists while playing a pivotal role in helping the Cherries achieve a record ninth-place finish with 56 points.

Kerkez’s all-action style aligns perfectly with Slot’s tactical demands for high-energy, attack-minded full-backs. He ranked fifth among Premier League defenders for ball recoveries (169), created 34 chances from open play, and delivered 142 crosses — all strong indicators of his dual impact on both ends of the pitch. His 22 successful dribbles and 476 passes into the final third further reinforce his attacking credentials.

Instrumental to the transfer was Liverpool sporting director Richard Hughes, who originally brought Kerkez to Bournemouth during his tenure as the Cherries’ technical director. The close relationship between the player’s camp and Hughes helped smooth negotiations. Kerkez’s father, Sebastijan, underscored that trust in an interview, saying:

“For us, Liverpool is the only option. If he had said we were going to India, we would have gone to India.”

Personal terms were quickly agreed upon, with Kerkez reiterating his desire to compete at the highest level. Speaking to The Athletic earlier this year, he said:

“As a kid, you dream to play at the highest level, win the trophies, be on the best teams.”

His arrival comes amid growing uncertainty over Liverpool’s current left-back options. Andy Robertson, now 31, has entered the final year of his contract and is reportedly attracting interest from Atlético Madrid, while Kostas Tsimikas may seek a move to secure more consistent playing time. Kerkez offers a dynamic, long-term solution on the left and is expected to compete for an immediate starting role.

This signing follows Liverpool’s other major additions this summer, including Jeremie Frimpong (£29.5m) and Florian Wirtz (£116.5m), both from Bayer Leverkusen. With potential moves for Crystal Palace’s Marc Guéhi and Newcastle’s Alexander Isak still being explored, the Reds’ summer spending could exceed £200 million.

The £40 million fee for Kerkez makes him Liverpool’s most expensive full-back in history and their 12th-most expensive signing overall — second only to Virgil van Dijk among defenders. His integration with fellow Hungarian Dominik Szoboszlai and burgeoning chemistry with Wirtz could create one of the most exciting left-sided partnerships in the Premier League.

Bournemouth, meanwhile, have already prepared for his departure by securing Rennes’ Adrien Truffert and Argentina U23 standout Julio Soler as replacements.

As Kerkez prepares to don the red shirt, Liverpool fans will be eager to see whether his arrival signals the start of another title-winning evolution at Anfield.
