How Liverpool could LINE-UP with Anthony Gordon, Alexander Isak and Florian Wirtz this season 2025-26

Alexander Isak Remains Liverpool’s Ideal Signing Amid Busy Transfer Window

Liverpool are reportedly set to pursue a new No. 9 this summer, with Alexander Isak labelled their “dream target” from the outset of the window.

Following the expected arrivals of Florian Wirtz and Milos Kerkez, the club is likely to shift its focus toward securing a centre-forward. However, that move may come later in the window, as several factors—including the future of Darwin Nunez—are still unfolding.

Nunez is drawing interest from Napoli, AC Milan, Atletico Madrid, and clubs in Saudi Arabia, which could influence Liverpool’s next step in the market.

For now, the club is prepared to wait for the right opportunity, with Isak still considered their top-choice striker.

Liverpool Eyeing Isak but Ekitike Emerges as Backup Option

Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, writing on Threads, has confirmed Liverpool’s continued admiration for Newcastle United striker Alexander Isak, describing him as a “dream target.” However, Romano cautions that any potential deal remains “complicated,” given several key factors.

Newcastle’s qualification for the Champions League has strengthened their negotiating position, and the club is reportedly holding out for a fee as high as £150 million. Isak is under contract until 2028, and Newcastle are said to be working on an improved extension to reflect his importance.

Despite the challenges, interest from Liverpool hasn’t faded. Mentions of Isak by reputable sources like The Mail’s Lewis Steele and Liverpool Echo’s Ian Doyle suggest the Merseyside club hasn’t ruled out a move.

Speaking on YouTube, Steele noted: “They’re not done. They will go for a No. 9.” He also claimed Isak’s representatives have likely had several discussions with Liverpool and other top clubs, though there’s no clear sign that a formal approach is imminent. “It’s not going away,” Steele added, hinting that Liverpool could revisit the situation later.

Ekitike Considered a Strong Alternative

If a move for Isak proves unfeasible this summer, Liverpool may pivot to Eintracht Frankfurt striker Hugo Ekitike. The Frenchman is also attracting interest from Chelsea and Manchester United, but there are quiet suggestions that Ekitike prefers a move to Anfield.

Romano described Ekitike as a “concrete target” for Liverpool, revealing that the club held talks with the player’s agents at the end of May and remain in ongoing contact.

Other strikers linked with Liverpool include RB Leipzig’s Benjamin Sesko and Atletico Madrid’s Julian Alvarez, although Alvarez appears to be a less likely option.
