Victor Osimhen forecast emerges after Liverpool reportedly begins talks with Napoli over potential swap deal.

Ex-Liverpool striker El-Hadji Diouf has praised his old club, referring to them as a “great team,” while discussing the potential signing of Victor Osimhen.

The 26-year-old Osimhen is expected to leave Napoli this summer and has been linked with a move to Liverpool. He could possibly replace Darwin Nunez, who might head to Napoli in a swap deal.

Reports suggest Liverpool are considering a new forward if Nunez departs after an inconsistent three-season stint at the club. Though Alexander Isak is reportedly their top choice, the cost of signing him could require Liverpool to surpass their recent British record signing of Florian Wirtz.

However, according to TEAMtalk, Liverpool have now shifted their focus to Osimhen, who may be more affordable. Discussions are said to be underway between Liverpool and Napoli, possibly involving Nunez and/or Federico Chiesa in a swap arrangement.

Diouf expressed confidence in Osimhen’s ability to succeed at Liverpool. Speaking to Africa Foot, he said, “If Liverpool are interested, it’s because they believe he has what it takes to succeed in the Premier League, the best league in the world.”

He emphasized Osimhen’s impressive goal-scoring record across multiple European leagues, including stints in Italy, Turkey, and with Lille in France.

Diouf was more skeptical about other clubs, stating, “I’m not sold on Chelsea’s project,” and suggesting that Manchester United’s absence from the Champions League makes them a less appealing option for a player like Osimhen.

Osimhen is reportedly eager to join a club that regularly competes in the Champions League and is open to joining Liverpool. However, his high salary demands could pose a challenge. He currently earns around $11.5 million net at Napoli, with his gross earnings nearly doubling that amount.

At Liverpool, top earners like Mohamed Salah and Virgil van Dijk make over $25 million annually, while Wirtz, the club’s newest major signing, earns about $14 million per year including bonuses, making him the third highest-paid player.
