Liverpool have reached a full agreement with Bournemouth for the transfer of their talented left-back in a deal worth £40 million.

Liverpool Agree £40M Deal for Milos Kerkez — Medical Scheduled for June 24

Liverpool have reached a £40 million agreement with Bournemouth for the signing of 21-year-old Hungarian left-back Milos Kerkez, with the player set to undergo his medical today, June 24, 2025, on Merseyside. The move signals another statement of intent from Arne Slot’s reigning Premier League champions as they strengthen their squad ahead of the new season.

Kerkez is expected to sign a five-year contract running through to 2030. Barring any last-minute issues, Liverpool plan to announce the deal officially as early as tomorrow, once the medical and formalities are complete.

Since arriving at Bournemouth from AZ Alkmaar for £15.5 million in 2023, Kerkez has been a standout in the Premier League. He featured in all 38 league matches last season, scoring twice and providing six assists, while playing a pivotal role in helping the Cherries secure a record ninth-place finish.

Known for his defensive grit and attacking drive, Kerkez recovered possession 169 times — fifth-most among Premier League defenders — and created 34 open-play chances. He also delivered 142 crosses and completed 22 successful dribbles, demonstrating his suitability for Slot’s high-intensity, attack-minded system. His 476 passes into the final third further underscore his offensive capabilities.

The deal has a familiar face behind it — Liverpool’s sporting director Richard Hughes, who previously brought Kerkez to Bournemouth in his time as the club’s technical director. That personal connection proved vital in the negotiations. Kerkez’s father, Sebastijan, praised Hughes’s influence: “For us, Liverpool is the only option. If he had told us to go to India, we’d have followed him.”

Kerkez had previously spoken about his ambition in a March interview with The Athletic, stating: “As a kid, you dream to play at the highest level, win the trophies, be on the best teams.”

His arrival comes at a critical time for Liverpool’s left-back position. Andy Robertson, now 31, is reportedly being monitored by Atlético Madrid, while Kostas Tsimikas could move on in pursuit of regular minutes. Kerkez is seen as both a long-term solution and an immediate contributor, adding depth and dynamism to a role pivotal in Slot’s tactical plans.

The Hungarian becomes Liverpool’s most expensive full-back signing to date and ranks 12th on their all-time transfer list, second only to Virgil van Dijk among defenders. He joins a growing list of high-profile additions, including Jeremie Frimpong and Florian Wirtz from Bayer Leverkusen.

Bournemouth, already preparing for life after Kerkez, have moved swiftly to secure Rennes’ Adrien Truffert and Argentine U23 international Julio Soler as reinforcements.

With continued interest in Crystal Palace defender Marc Guéhi and Newcastle striker Alexander Isak, Liverpool’s summer spending could soon eclipse the £200 million mark. Kerkez’s link-up with compatriot Dominik Szoboszlai and new arrival Florian Wirtz promises an exciting new dynamic on Liverpool’s left flank.
