A Liverpool FC journalist has provided a huge update on the future of Newcastle United forward Alexander Isak, who has been linked with a move to the Premier League champions this summer.
Alexander Isak’s Future in the Balance Amid Liverpool Interest
At 25, Alexander Isak continues to attract attention from top clubs, with Arsenal and PSG previously expressing interest. However, Liverpool now appears to be the most likely destination should he part ways with Newcastle United.
Reports surfaced on Monday suggesting that Isak is open to leaving St. James’ Park. Italian journalist Gianluca Di Marzio noted that the Swedish striker held discussions with both the club and manager at the end of the season, expressing his desire to move on. Di Marzio stated: “Isak wants to leave, but Newcastle are currently unwilling to let him go,” adding that the situation hinges on further talks between the player and the club.
Meanwhile, Graeme Bailey of Rousing The Kop emphasized that Liverpool’s interest is serious and ongoing. He explained: “Isak has always been a potential target. Based on what we’re hearing, Liverpool remain confident and are closely monitoring the situation.”
Newcastle is reportedly prepared to break its wage structure to keep Isak, but Liverpool remain alert, especially as contract negotiations appear to be stalled. “There’s a sense that something’s coming to a head soon,” Bailey said. “While a new contract hasn’t been finalized, Liverpool sees an opportunity.”
Bailey also mentioned that a potential transfer fee could range between £120-130 million, assuming Isak declines Newcastle’s contract extension offer.
If a move materializes, Isak would join a Liverpool squad already brimming with talent and further enhanced by the arrivals of Florian Wirtz and Jeremie Frimpong this summer.
German journalist Florian Plettenberg also reported that Liverpool is currently weighing three main options for a new striker: Hugo Ekitike, Alexander Isak, and Victor Osimhen. In a recent update on X, he wrote that Liverpool have done extensive background work on each of the players, with Ekitike being particularly high on their shortlist. However, any move could depend on outgoing transfers, as Liverpool would need to clear space before bringing in a new forward.
