Liverpool have reached a full agreement with Bournemouth for the transfer of their talented left-back in a deal worth Β£40 million.

Liverpool Seal Β£40M Deal for Milos Kerkez as Slot Strengthens Title-Winning Squad

Liverpool have secured the signing of Hungarian left-back Milos Kerkez from Bournemouth in a Β£40 million agreement, with the 21-year-old set to undergo his medical on June 24, 2025, in Merseyside. The move represents a major step in the Reds’ summer transfer strategy under new manager Arne Slot, as they prepare to defend their Premier League crown.

Kerkez is expected to ink a five-year deal, keeping him at Anfield until 2030, with an official announcement anticipated shortly after the medical and final paperwork are completed.

The young defender joined Bournemouth from AZ Alkmaar just a year ago for Β£15.5 million, but after a standout debut season in England, his stock has soared. He featured in every single Premier League match last season, scoring twice and delivering six assists while playing a key role in Bournemouth’s historic ninth-place finish.

Kerkez showcased a rare blend of attacking flair and defensive solidity, recovering the ball 169 timesβ€”ranking fifth among Premier League defendersβ€”and creating 34 open-play chances. His contribution also included 142 crosses, 22 successful dribbles, and 476 final-third passes, making him a perfect fit for Slot’s high-intensity, full-back-driven system.

Richard Hughes Reunites with Kerkez

The move was orchestrated by Liverpool sporting director Richard Hughes, who previously worked with Kerkez at Bournemouth. The personal connection played a pivotal role in the transfer, with Kerkez’s father, Sebastijan, stating:

β€œFor us, Liverpool is the only option. If he had said we were going to India, we would have gone to India.”

Kerkez had made his ambitions clear in a March interview with The Athletic, saying:

β€œAs a kid, you dream to play at the highest level, win the trophies, be on the best teams.”

Changing of the Guard at Left-Back

The signing comes amid uncertainty over Liverpool’s current left-backs. Andy Robertson, now 31 and in the final year of his contract, has been linked with AtlΓ©tico Madrid, while Kostas Tsimikas may seek more consistent minutes elsewhere.

Kerkez’s arrival, alongside recent signings Jeremie Frimpong (Β£29.5m) and Florian Wirtz (Β£116.5m), signals a squad refresh focused on youth, energy, and versatility. With Wirtz expected to operate on the left side of midfield, his chemistry with Kerkez could become a key feature of Liverpool’s play.

Bournemouth Move Quickly to Replace Star Man

Bournemouth, anticipating the loss of their star left-back, have already lined up reinforcementsβ€”bringing in Adrien Truffert from Rennes and Argentina U23 defender Julio Soler to reinforce their back line.

The Β£40 million fee makes Kerkez Liverpool’s most expensive full-back in history and their 12th-highest signing overall, behind only Virgil van Dijk among defenders.

More to Come in a Big-Spending Summer

Liverpool’s summer spending could surpass Β£200 million, with additional targets like Marc GuΓ©hi (Crystal Palace) and Alexander Isak (Newcastle) still in their sights. The arrival of Kerkez not only strengthens the defense but also adds long-term depth and complements the club’s strategic rebuild.

With Dominik Szoboszlai already a fan favorite, the inclusion of another Hungarian international only adds to the growing excitement at Anfield as Liverpool prepare for a new era under Arne Slot.
