Liverpool reporter reveals Marc Guehi update after player gives ‘go-ahead’ for transfer”

Marc Guehi Open to Liverpool Move — But Only with Assurances

Crystal Palace defender Marc Guehi is reportedly open to joining Liverpool this summer — but only if he’s guaranteed consistent first-team football.

The 24-year-old England international has emerged as a top defensive target for the Reds, with Fabrizio Romano confirming that new discussions are set to take place this week. Guehi is said to be high on the recruitment list of Liverpool’s owners, FSG.

According to journalist David Lynch, Guehi is open to the move but wants clear assurances regarding his role under new manager Arne Slot.

“What I’m hearing is that Guehi is interested, but he’s not willing to join if there’s a risk he’ll be stuck on the bench,” Lynch told Anfield Index. “It sounds like Liverpool have outlined a defined role for him, possibly even a route to becoming a starter over Konate. While he hasn’t spoken to Slot yet, the sporting directors have painted a clear enough picture to make him seriously consider the transfer.”

Guehi’s desire for playing time could be met, especially with key defensive exits looming at Anfield.

Jarell Quansah is undergoing a medical with Bayer Leverkusen, signaling an imminent departure. Meanwhile, Ibrahima Konate’s future remains uncertain — Football Insider reports that FSG may sell him for £40–50 million if a contract extension isn’t agreed, with the French defender entering the final year of his deal.

Should both Quansah and Konate leave, Guehi could walk into a starting role beside Virgil van Dijk, forming a key part of Slot’s defensive rebuild.

Liverpool’s growing interest in Guehi signals preparations for significant changes at centre-back. If the club has indeed assured the Palace star of substantial minutes, the next hurdle will be agreeing a fee. With just a year left on his contract, Palace may be tempted to sell — if the offer reflects Guehi’s market value.
