Romano: Liverpool Working on Deal for ‘Elite’ Forward Alongside Guehi Pursuit
Liverpool is making active efforts to secure a deal for Eintracht Frankfurt striker Hugo Ekitike during the current transfer window, according to journalist Fabrizio Romano.
The Premier League champions have identified the talented French forward as a possible addition to Arne Slot’s attacking options and are currently holding discussions regarding his potential signing.
Strengthening the front line is a priority for the club, especially with Darwin Nunez expected to leave amid strong interest from Serie A champions Napoli.
Should Nunez depart, it would create both a vacancy and budget space for a new top-tier striker—putting Ekitike, who had a breakout season in the Bundesliga, firmly on Liverpool’s radar.
Liverpool Eyeing Frankfurt’s Hugo Ekitike
The club is awaiting developments on Nunez’s situation.
Speaking on his YouTube channel, Fabrizio Romano stated that Liverpool is seriously considering bringing Ekitike on board and is pressing ahead with its summer plans:
“I’ve said it several times—Liverpool is pushing for this move and assessing Hugo Ekitike as an addition to their squad.
“They are planning to bring in a new striker and are waiting to see what happens with Darwin Nunez.”
Ekitike, who has been widely labeled as an ‘elite’ talent, permanently joined Frankfurt from Paris Saint-Germain last summer. He impressed in the Bundesliga with 15 goals and 8 assists over 33 appearances.
Reports indicate Frankfurt could accept an offer between £68 million and £76 million, slightly below their original £84 million asking price.
This summer, Liverpool has already spent nearly £200 million on three signings: Jeremie Frimpong and Florian Wirtz from Bayer Leverkusen, along with Bournemouth full-back Milos Kerkez.
In addition to targeting Ekitike, the Reds are also working on strengthening their defense, with talks ongoing for Crystal Palace captain Marc Guehi, amid uncertainty surrounding Ibrahima Konate’s future.
