It’s still unclear whether Newcastle United will part ways with Alexander Isak, as Liverpool’s Richard Hughes and Michael Edwards may have to remain patient.
Speaking on the Back Pages podcast by Sky Sports, David Ornstein of The Athletic shared that Newcastle currently have no plans to sell the Swedish forward. However, internal talks could be influenced by Isak’s own position on the matter.
As Newcastle resumed pre-season training this week, discussions regarding Isak’s future are expected soon. Meanwhile, Liverpool continue to keep a close watch on the situation, with Isak reportedly remaining their top target for the No. 9 role.
Ornstein commented:
“Newcastle don’t intend to sell Alexander Isak. They want him to stay and are hopeful he’ll agree to a new contract.”
He noted that although Arsenal have previously expressed interest and Liverpool might act if the chance arises, Newcastle are not looking to make Isak available. Even if they were to entertain offers, the valuation would likely be upwards of £150 million.
While Newcastle have been linked with Hugo Ekitike as a potential alternative, Liverpool must wait to see where Isak stands as the new season approaches. For now, he continues to be a key part of Newcastle’s plans.
