Newcastle Submit Record £69.5m Bid for Hugo Ekitike to Partner Isak
Newcastle United have submitted a club-record offer of £69.5 million for Eintracht Frankfurt striker Hugo Ekitike, as Eddie Howe looks to pair him with Alexander Isak in a revamped attack.
The Magpies are awaiting Frankfurt’s response, having outbid an earlier £60.1m proposal from another club. While Frankfurt are holding firm on the £86 million release clause in Ekitike’s contract, Newcastle hope to negotiate a deal below that figure.
Ekitike, 23, previously turned down Newcastle in 2022 in favor of a move to Paris Saint-Germain, but the club has renewed its pursuit amid interest from Liverpool and Manchester United.
With Callum Wilson’s departure and only Will Osula as cover, Howe is eager to reinforce his frontline alongside the £68m Isak, whom the club signed after missing out on Ekitike two years ago.
Newcastle officials have met multiple times with Frankfurt and Ekitike’s representatives in Germany, with additional talks reportedly held during the club’s pre-season camp in Austria.
Ekitike had a standout season in 2024–25, scoring 22 goals in 48 appearances, and would be Newcastle’s second summer signing after the recent £55m capture of Anthony Elanga from Nottingham Forest.
Newcastle also remain interested in Burnley goalkeeper James Trafford, with a potential bid expected once the Ekitike deal is resolved.
