David de Gea Declines Nottingham Forest Offer, Remains a Free Agent
David de Gea has reportedly turned down an offer from a Premier League club during the January transfer window, continuing his search for the right next move. The veteran Spanish goalkeeper, who parted ways with Manchester United last summer after a 12-year stint, is still without a club.
While De Gea had been linked with a move to Saudi Arabia, no deal has materialized. Nottingham Forest expressed strong interest in bringing him in on a short-term basis, offering him regular playing time for the remainder of the season. However, the 33-year-old declined the proposal, preferring to keep his options open.
In addition to their pursuit of De Gea, Forest also looked into signing Arsenal’s Aaron Ramsdale, who lost his starting spot to David Raya. Ultimately, they shifted their focus and secured Matz Sels from Strasbourg on the final day of the window. The Belgian international joined the club for ยฃ5.1 million on a three-and-a-half-year deal.
With Sels now in the squad, Nottingham Forest’s goalkeeping ranks include Matt Turner, Wayne Hennessey, and Odysseas Vlachodimos. Despite the transfer window closing, De Gea remains eligible to sign with a club at any time due to his free agent status.
During his time at Manchester United, De Gea made 545 appearances and was a key figure in multiple campaigns. He also earned 45 caps with the Spanish national team, adding to his reputation as one of the most experienced keepers of his generation.
