Here’s what I’ve heard…” – Fabrizio Romano reveals Alexander Isak’s position on possible move to Liverpool

Fabrizio Romano Provides Encouraging Update on Liverpool’s Pursuit of Alexander Isak

Liverpool’s ambition in the transfer market shows no signs of slowing, as Fabrizio Romano has delivered a significant boost to the club’s hopes of signing Alexander Isak this summer.

The 25-year-old Newcastle striker has emerged as a top target for the Reds following reports by David Ornstein, who confirmed on Tuesday that Liverpool had made initial contact with Newcastle. While no formal offer has yet been submitted, Romano’s latest update suggests a major move is firmly in play.

Romano: Liverpool Preparing £120M Bid

Speaking on his YouTube channel, Romano revealed that Liverpool have communicated their willingness to bid £120 million for Isak. Crucially, the player has not shut the door on the move.

“Liverpool informed Newcastle they’re ready to bid £120 million for Isak,” Romano said.
“I’ve also heard that the player hasn’t rejected Liverpool. He hasn’t blocked the move.
He remains in talks with Newcastle over a new contract, and the club wants to keep him — but he’s not ruling out a transfer.”

This is a hugely positive sign for Liverpool, as the Sweden international’s openness to a move could prove pivotal if the Reds formalize their interest.

A Massive Statement Summer

Should Liverpool follow through with such a high-profile offer — especially so soon after signing Florian Wirtz for £116 million — it would mark a dramatic shift in strategy from FSG, whose reputation has long leaned toward financial conservatism.

The club’s transfer activity has also taken on a deeper emotional weight following the tragic passing of Diogo Jota, leaving sporting director Richard Hughes tasked with replacing a key figure both on and off the pitch. Isak, with 44 Premier League goals across the last two seasons, could be the ideal fit in terms of profile, quality, and potential.

Newcastle’s Dilemma and Ekitike Links

While Newcastle are keen to tie Isak down to a new deal, a £120M+ bid would be difficult to ignore — particularly as the club is actively targeting Hugo Ekitike as a potential replacement.

This, coupled with ongoing FFP pressures and squad reshaping, may leave the Magpies open to negotiations if Liverpool push forward.

Credible Momentum Behind the Deal

With both David Ornstein and Fabrizio Romano confirming Liverpool’s genuine interest, optimism among Reds fans is rising. Isak’s potential arrival would not only address the void left by Jota but could also transform Liverpool’s frontline into one of the most dynamic in Europe.
