Good morning and welcome to the Echo’s live blog — your Monday, July 14 Liverpool update!
Liverpool began their pre-season on a positive note with a 3-1 victory over Preston North End on Sunday — their first game since the tragic passing of Diogo Jota.
Arne Slot’s team delivered an impressive showing at Deepdale, with Conor Bradley breaking the deadlock at the 30-minute mark. Darwin Nunez doubled the lead shortly after halftime. Although Liam Lindsay narrowed the gap late in the game, Cody Gakpo quickly restored Liverpool’s two-goal advantage.
The Reds have already been busy in the transfer market, securing most of their key signings before the start of pre-season training.
New additions Jeremie Frimpong, Florian Wirtz, and Milos Kerkez have joined the squad, along with last year’s signing Giorgi Mamardashvili and youngster Armin Pecsi — pushing the club’s total spending past £200 million.
Still, Liverpool’s transfer activity isn’t over. Crystal Palace defender Marc Guehi remains a top target, and several players are rumored to be on their way out.
Among those potentially leaving are Darwin Nunez, Luis Diaz, and Harvey Elliott. Meanwhile, exits are already expected for Trent Alexander-Arnold, Caoimhin Kelleher, Jarell Quansah, and Nat Phillips.
