Liverpool Closing in on Crystal Palace Star Marc Guehi After Showing Interest in Isak
Liverpool is reportedly on the verge of securing a deal to sign Crystal Palace defender Marc Guehi, according to journalist Pete O’Rourke.
The reigning Premier League champions are expected to finalize the transfer of the England international once Palace lines up a replacement. Talks are currently ongoing over a £45 million move for Sporting Lisbon centre-back Ousmane Diomande.
This move could trigger a sequence of events, with Palace likely to allow Guehi — who has just one year left on his contract — to leave once they sign Diomande.
Liverpool has monitored Guehi closely over the summer amid growing doubts about Ibrahima Konate’s future at Anfield. The Frenchman, who also has one year remaining on his deal, is a known target for Real Madrid, and talks over an extension have reportedly stalled.
Guehi Seen as Key Defensive Addition
O’Rourke reports that Liverpool sees Guehi as a high-quality defensive reinforcement who could fit seamlessly into Arne Slot’s starting XI next season.
His arrival would provide immediate cover and long-term security in case Konate departs, with Real Madrid continuing to express interest.
Guehi, who Crystal Palace chairman Steve Parish has praised as a “superstar,” has developed into one of the top central defenders in English football over the past four years. He brings significant experience, having made 132 Premier League appearances for Palace.
In addition to strengthening their defense, Liverpool is also expected to pursue a new striker. They are in talks with Newcastle United over a possible £120 million move for Swedish international Alexander Isak, though Newcastle remains hesitant to sell.
