Another farewell nears at Barcelona… and the source of concern comes from Pedri and Gavi’s closest friend!

Barcelona Faces Internal Tension as Gerard Martin Nears Exit Under Flick’s New Regime

Every summer brings unexpected twists at Europe’s top clubs — and this year, Barcelona is once again in the spotlight.

Following the departure of a long-time member of the club’s young core, speculation has intensified over who might be next to leave under new head coach Hansi Flick. Within the Blaugrana camp, there’s growing unease, especially after the exit of Pablo Torre, a close friend of Pedri and Gavi. And now, it appears Gerard Martin could be the next casualty.

Despite a breakthrough season in which he took advantage of Alejandro Balde’s injury setbacks to become a dependable option at left-back, Martin reportedly no longer features in Flick’s long-term plans. The 21-year-old had initially faced skepticism due to his lack of top-level experience but silenced critics with strong performances, including key appearances in the Champions League.

Even so, Barcelona’s hierarchy — led by president Joan Laporta and sporting director Deco — is said to be evaluating the financial benefits of a potential sale, particularly amid interest from top Premier League and Serie A clubs. Some offers could reportedly reach up to €10 million.

Martin’s potential departure has reportedly upset Pedri and Gavi, who have voiced their disappointment behind the scenes. The pair are close to Martin and see the club’s decision as more of a veiled dismissal than a standard transfer — especially since Martin himself remains eager to stay and fight for a place in the squad.

Barcelona’s leadership, meanwhile, is believed to see La Masia standout Joffrey Torrentes as a long-term successor in Martin’s position. His emergence may be influencing the decision to cash in on Martin now.

Overall, the situation underscores the significant reshaping happening at the club — and gives an early indication of the bold and, at times, controversial choices Hansi Flick may make as he redefines Barcelona’s future.
