Liverpool Close In on Hugo Ekitike After Dropping Isak Pursuit
Liverpool are on the verge of completing a major transfer for Hugo Ekitike, having agreed to personal terms with the French striker as negotiations with Eintracht Frankfurt accelerate.
The move comes after Liverpool reportedly ended their interest in Alexander Isak, informing Newcastle United they would pursue alternative targets if the Magpies refused to sell. With Newcastle standing firm, the Reds swiftly shifted focus to Ekitike — a player also high on Newcastle’s own wish list earlier this summer.
According to multiple reports, including Fabrizio Romano and Fabrice Hawkins, Liverpool have already submitted an initial offer to Frankfurt, which was rejected, but discussions are ongoing. Frankfurt are holding out for a higher fee, potentially in the region of €95–100 million (£87m+), which would represent a record sale for the Bundesliga club.
“Liverpool have submitted an official bid for Hugo Ekitike,” Romano posted. “The offer was turned down, but talks are continuing. Ekitike has said yes to Liverpool, and there are no issues on personal terms.”
Personal Terms Agreed — Six-Year Contract
Ekitike has reportedly agreed to a six-year contract with Liverpool and has turned down interest from both Manchester United and Newcastle, making it clear he only wants a move to Anfield.
“Hugo Ekitike and Liverpool reached an agreement over a six-year contract,” reported Hawkins. “The player only wants Liverpool. In the last 24 hours, he rejected Manchester United. Newcastle have withdrawn from talks.”
A Young Star with Huge Potential
Ekitike, 23, enjoyed a breakout season at Frankfurt, registering 22 goals and 12 assists. While not as polished as Isak, he’s seen as a similarly dynamic forward with enormous upside and fits the club’s long-term vision under new manager Arne Slot.
Despite the hefty price tag, Liverpool appear ready to invest heavily in Ekitike, seeing him as a future centerpiece of their attack. Should a deal be finalized in the coming days — as expected — Ekitike will join a formidable forward line alongside Mohamed Salah, Darwin Núñez, and Cody Gakpo.
