Liverpool is poised to decide on Marc Guehi following an important update regarding Konate

Liverpool Weigh Move for Marc Guehi as Real Madrid Circles Ibrahima Konaté

Liverpool are nearing a crucial decision regarding the future of Ibrahima Konaté, as Real Madrid intensifies their interest in the French defender. With Konaté entering the final year of his contract and no extension currently on the table, the situation has drawn the attention of clubs across Europe — most notably the Spanish giants.

According to Football Insider’s Pete O’Rourke, Madrid are preparing what’s being described as a “cheeky” £25 million bid for Konaté — £15 million below Liverpool’s valuation. The offer comes amid concern at Anfield about potentially repeating the contract dilemma faced with Trent Alexander-Arnold, who is also attracting Madrid’s interest.

Konaté, who joined Liverpool from RB Leipzig in 2021, has made 132 appearances for the club, helping secure five domestic trophies. His strong performances, combined with his contract status, give him leverage heading into January, when he will be free to negotiate with foreign clubs.

Liverpool Line Up Guehi as Potential Successor

Should Konaté leave, Liverpool are eyeing Crystal Palace’s Marc Guehi as a priority target to reinforce their back line. The England international has emerged as one of the Premier League’s most reliable center-backs and played a pivotal role in Palace’s FA Cup triumph last season.

Reports indicate that a £45 million deal for Guehi is increasingly likely, with Crystal Palace preparing for his exit by targeting Ousmane Diomande from Sporting CP. Liverpool, aware that this summer may be their last chance to profit from Konaté, are weighing their next steps carefully.

With Real Madrid manager Xabi Alonso pushing for defensive reinforcements — having recently signed Dean Huijsen from Bournemouth — Konaté’s situation could spark a chain reaction in the transfer market, reshaping Liverpool’s defense ahead of the 2025 season.
