Arsenal will complete an unprecedented transfer window if they make one more signing after Viktor Gyokeres deal.
Swedish striker Viktor Gyökeres is set to undergo a medical this weekend ahead of finalizing a £63.8 million move from Sporting CP, bringing an end to Arsenal’s long-standing search for a forward.
Since his €20 million (£17.5 million) move from Championship side Coventry in 2023, Gyökeres has made a huge impact in Portugal.
He has netted an incredible 97 goals in 102 appearances, catching the eye of Manchester United as well. However, the striker expressed a strong desire to play Champions League football and specifically join Arsenal.
He will become Arsenal’s sixth summer signing, following the arrivals of Kepa Arrizabalaga, Christian Norgaard, Martin Zubimendi, Noni Madueke, and Cristhian Mosquera.
Should Arsenal secure a seventh signing after Gyökeres, it would mark their most active transfer window since the summer of 2001.
In 2001, Arsenal brought in seven new players, including notable names like Sol Campbell and Giovanni van Bronckhorst. However, this occurred before the current format of distinct summer and winter transfer windows was established.
To find the last time Arsenal signed eight first-team players, you’d have to go back to 1997. That year, the club made several high-profile additions—including Marc Overmars, Emmanuel Petit, and Matthew Upson—in a spending spree that played a key role in dethroning Manchester United to claim the Premier League title.
More recently, Arsenal’s most active summer came in 2021, when Mikel Arteta spent £142 million in an effort to revamp the squad after a difficult start to his managerial tenure. That window saw the arrivals of Ben White, Martin Ødegaard, and Aaron Ramsdale, among others.
Could Arsenal make another signing? It certainly remains a possibility.
Speaking at the start of Arsenal’s pre-season tour in Singapore and Hong Kong, Mikel Arteta made it clear that more reinforcements are needed.
“We’re short in terms of numbers and need to strengthen the depth and quality of the squad,” Arteta said. “We’re actively monitoring the market. Until new players arrive, our focus is on the current squad — and I’m really pleased with what I’ve seen over the past couple of weeks.”
Since that statement, Arsenal have added young defender Cristhian Mosquera from Valencia, and Viktor Gyökeres is expected to complete his move by the weekend.
However, transfer rumors haven’t cooled down, and Arsenal are still being linked with additional targets.
One of the strongest names in the mix is Crystal Palace playmaker Eberechi Eze. Valued for his versatility across attacking roles, the 27-year-old reportedly believes he knows which club he’ll join this summer.
Eze has a £60 million release clause in his current contract, though Arsenal would aim to negotiate a lower fee if they decide to make a formal approach.
Competition is fierce for his signature, with Tottenham, Chelsea, and Bayern Munich also said to be interested.
