Good morning and welcome to the Echo’s Live Blog – your Monday, July 14 update on all things Liverpool!
Liverpool began their pre-season campaign with a 3-1 victory over Preston North End on Sunday, marking their first game since the tragic passing of Diogo Jota.
Arne Slot’s team delivered a solid performance at Deepdale. Conor Bradley opened the scoring at the half-hour mark, followed by Darwin Nunez netting another shortly after halftime. Although Liam Lindsay pulled one back for Preston late in the game, Cody Gakpo quickly responded to reestablish Liverpool’s two-goal lead.
The Reds have been proactive in the transfer market, securing key signings before pre-season training kicked off. New arrivals Jeremie Frimpong, Florian Wirtz, and Milos Kerkez have joined the squad, along with last year’s signing Giorgi Mamardashvili and young talent Armin Pecsi — bringing the total transfer spend to over £200 million.
However, the club’s business isn’t finished yet. Liverpool continue to pursue Crystal Palace centre-back Marc Guehi, while several players are being linked with moves away.
Darwin Nunez, Luis Diaz, and Harvey Elliott are all rumored to be potential exits, joining a group of expected departures that includes Trent Alexander-Arnold, Caoimhin Kelleher, Jarell Quansah, and Nat Phillips.
