🔴 Done Deal: Liverpool Sign Salford City Striker Will Wright
Liverpool have officially reached an agreement with Salford City to sign 17-year-old striker Will Wright, with personal terms now finalized and a medical currently underway.
Despite Arsenal previously agreeing a deal with Salford, Wright made the decision to reject the move to North London and instead chose to continue his development in the North West with Liverpool. Sources suggest that while Arsenal offered a larger fee and salary, Liverpool’s sporting project and development pathway ultimately won him over.
The transfer is reportedly worth around £200,000 ($266,000) initially, with performance-based add-ons included.
Wright, known for his prolific goal scoring at youth level, made his first-team debut for Salford in January during an FA Cup clash against Manchester City and has appeared in two senior league matches as well.
Upon completing his move, Wright will join Liverpool’s U21 squad, now under the guidance of new head coach Rob Page, who replaced Barry Lewtas ahead of the 2025/26 season. Page, formerly the Wales national team boss, is seen as a key figure in helping young talents make the transition to first-team football.
“Rob’s background with the Welsh national team and his ability to develop young talent make him a valuable asset for our academy,” said Academy Director Alex Inglethorpe. “His work has already helped several players break through to senior levels, and we’re excited to see what he brings to Kirkby.”
Meanwhile, Simon Wiles is also expected to take over the U18s team, continuing a summer of major changes at Liverpool’s youth level.
With Wright’s arrival, the Reds are reinforcing their long-term attacking options while staying committed to developing top-tier talent through their academy.
Welcome to Liverpool, Will Wright. 🔴
