Liverpool supporters are not pleased after hearing what Luis Diaz said in his first press conference since signing for Bayern Munich.
Luis Díaz Joins Bayern Munich in £65.5m Deal
Luis Díaz, 28, has finalized a £65.5 million transfer to Bayern Munich, signing a four-year contract under new manager Vincent Kompany.
Díaz, whose Liverpool deal was originally set to run until 2027, leaves Anfield after a successful spell that saw him win four major titles—the Premier League, FA Cup, and two League Cups. The Colombian winger scored 41 goals in 148 appearances for the Reds.
A former Porto standout, Díaz now becomes Bayern’s third most expensive signing ever, trailing only behind Harry Kane and Lucas Hernandez.
His exit from Liverpool was handled with grace. Head coach Arne Slot paid tribute, saying:
“Above all, he was a great person—always smiling, whether he was playing or not. In the year I worked with him, he gave his all in every training session and maintained a positive attitude, even when he wasn’t in the starting lineup.”
Slot also admitted he’d miss more than just Díaz’s footballing ability:
“Honestly, I’m going to miss his song—a lot. It was probably one of the best chants our fans ever made for a player,” he said. “And of course, I’ll miss everything he did to help us win the league.”
Reflecting on his time at Liverpool, Díaz expressed pride in his achievements:
“I fulfilled my duty by helping the team win the league,” he stated.
At his unveiling in Germany, the Colombian winger shared his excitement about the next chapter:
“I’m very happy to be here in Munich at this great club,” Díaz said during his first press conference as a Bayern Munich player.
Díaz Shares Ambitions at Bayern—But Comments Spark Fan Backlash
Speaking at his Bayern Munich unveiling, Luis Díaz reflected on his early impressions of life at the club:
“My first impressions have been very positive. I haven’t had much time to settle in yet, but the welcome has been incredibly warm. I’m really looking forward to getting to know everyone better.”
He went on to explain his reasons for making the move:
“I chose Bayern because it aligns with my personal goals. My ambitions are high, so I wanted to join a big club that shares that hunger for success. We’re aiming to win everything, and I want to play my part in that.”
However, not all Liverpool fans were pleased with his remarks. Some took to social media, interpreting his comments as a slight against his former club.
One fan questioned, “Is Liverpool not big?”
Another wrote, “So Lucho thinks Liverpool isn’t ambitious?”
A third added, “He’s acting like Liverpool don’t have ambition—during a transfer window where we’re absolutely flying.”
