Alexander Isak could remain at Newcastle United this summer after Liverpool pull back in striker pursuit
Liverpool may be stepping away from their attempt to sign Alexander Isak, which could see the Swedish forward staying at Newcastle for the remainder of the transfer window.
Isak had reportedly requested to be left out of Newcastle’s pre-season tour in Asia, signaling a desire to leave. However, The Athletic’s David Ornstein reported that Liverpool’s opening bid—believed to be £110 million—was rejected by the Magpies, who value the 25-year-old significantly higher. Isak has since been training individually at his former club, Real Sociedad.
Journalist Ben Jacobs has since revealed that Liverpool are unlikely to make a second offer, calling Newcastle’s refusal to negotiate a firm stance.
In a post on X, Jacobs wrote:
“Liverpool currently have no intention of submitting a second bid for Alexander Isak. Newcastle’s response has been definitive. Unless they reach out to reopen discussions, Liverpool won’t pursue further. The £110m bid was rejected, though personal terms with Isak weren’t an issue.”
Meanwhile, despite being far from home on their pre-season tour, Isak’s situation continues to dominate discussion among the Newcastle squad. Speaking to The Mail from Seoul, winger Anthony Gordon commented:
“I understand what Alex is going through. Personally, this is the first summer in years I haven’t been caught up in transfer speculation—and it’s been a relief. It’s mentally refreshing.”
