Real Madrid hero Guti: Don’t judge Xabi on CWC results

Real Madrid legend Guti has come to the defense of manager Xabi Alonso following their crushing 4-0 defeat to PSG in the Club World Cup semifinal on Wednesday.

Despite the disappointing result, Guti expressed his support for Alonso in an interview with DAZN, saying:
“Xabi understands that at Real Madrid, every detail matters. But I stand by him—I fully support him.

“You can’t judge his work at this tournament alone. It’s true things slipped away here, but I believe we’ll see a different Real Madrid going forward, and I’m confident that will happen.”

Guti also praised PSG wing-back Achraf Hakimi, whom he once coached during the player’s time in Real Madrid’s youth system.

“Hakimi is a joy to watch—he always was,” Guti said. “I remember when he came to me and said, ‘Let’s see if I can get some minutes,’ and I replied, ‘What do you mean? We should be trying to keep you here!’ Watching him play was a spectacle even back then.

“He’s grown so much, both as a player and as a person. Right now, he’s in fantastic form with his club and individually. I’ve already told him after the game—and I’ll say it again—for me, he’s currently the best right-back in the world.”
