RB Leipzig in Contact with Liverpool Over Harvey Elliott Transfer

RB Leipzig have formally contacted Liverpool to explore a potential deal for midfielder Harvey Elliott, as they search for a replacement for Xavi Simons, who is expected to leave before the end of the transfer window.

While discussions between the clubs are not yet advanced, they are ongoing. Liverpool have reportedly set a valuation of over £40 million if a buy-back clause is included, or above £50 million outright.

Leipzig believe Elliott, 22, could slot directly into the creative role left by Simons, who contributed 10 goals and six assists in the Bundesliga last season. The Dutch star has been linked with Chelsea and other top European clubs.

Elliott Ready to Review His Future

Despite his affection for Liverpool, Elliott admitted in June that he’s concerned about a lack of regular game time, saying:

“Nothing makes me want to leave. I love the club… But most importantly, it’s just about what’s best for my career.”

Elliott made 28 appearances in all competitions in 2024-25, but only started two Premier League matches, both after Liverpool had already secured the title under Arne Slot.

His performances at the 2025 UEFA Under-21 European Championship were a standout, where he was named Player of the Tournament, scoring five goals and helping England secure back-to-back titles.

What’s Next?

Leipzig are serious admirers of Elliott’s potential and believe he fits their dynamic, attacking style. The Bundesliga could also offer Elliott the consistent game time and platform for development he currently lacks at Anfield.

Liverpool will not sell easily, but with the player open to evaluating his options and Leipzig pushing for a creative midfield replacement, a deal may progress in the coming weeks—especially if Xavi Simons’ departure is finalized.
