Manchester United have submitted their first official offer for RB Leipzig forward Benjamin Sesko, according to reports in Germany, as the so-called “crazy transfer battle” involving Newcastle continues
Benjamin Šeško has been strongly linked with a move to Manchester United recently, as manager Rúben Amorim continues his search for a new striker.
Last week, Newcastle made a club-record offer of £69.9 million for the 22-year-old forward, but RB Leipzig rejected the bid, citing concerns over its structure.
According to German outlet BILD, Leipzig have now received an offer from Manchester United worth around €85 million (£73.9 million).
Additionally, The Athletic’s David Ornstein reports that United’s bid consists of €75 million upfront, with an extra €10 million in potential add-ons. Ornstein also suggests that the Premier League side believe Šeško prefers a move to Old Trafford over other suitors.
Meanwhile, Šeško will not take part in team training with Leipzig on Tuesday and will instead train alone, due to the ongoing transfer developments.
“The key question now is: what does Sesko himself want?” reported BILD. “Until recently, he was undecided, considering both options. According to BILD sources, he reportedly told both clubs that they were his preferred destination.”
Manchester United submitted their official offer for Benjamin Šeško on Tuesday morning, according to transfer insider Ben Jacobs. The bid is believed to match the fixed fee set by RB Leipzig.
Jacobs further noted: “United are confident that Sesko wants the move. They wouldn’t have submitted an offer without the player’s approval. Newcastle have long feared that if both clubs presented similar offers, Sesko would choose United.”
Why Sesko Turned Down Man Utd in 2024
Last year, Sesko explained his decision to stay at Leipzig despite serious interest from top Premier League sides, including Manchester United and Arsenal. After a strong 2023/24 season with 18 goals under Marco Rose, many clubs showed interest, but the former Salzburg striker ultimately chose to remain in Germany.
Speaking to Nogomania, Sesko said:
“I thought it through carefully and felt I made the right call. I wanted to keep developing, gain more experience, and avoid rushing into anything. Leipzig is a fantastic club that supports my growth.”
He praised Leipzig’s clear vision and high ambitions, saying those factors influenced his decision to stay.
When asked how he managed the external noise around his potential transfer, Sesko added:
“Of course, those things can affect you subconsciously—it’s only human. But I stayed composed throughout. I got through the uncertain period and was able to focus fully on the Euros.”
Now, a year later, Sesko appears ready to move on. Reports suggest he is open to both Manchester United and Newcastle’s proposals as his next career step.
