Raheem Sterling in talks to join fifth Premier League club in shock move from Chelsea nobody expected

Chelsea forward Raheem Sterling is in talks over a potential move this summer, according to a new report – and it could end up being the fifth Premier League club of his career to date.

The 30-year-old winger, who reportedly turned down a massive £650,000-a-week contract last summer—one of the most lucrative offers in football—spent the 2024/25 season on loan at Arsenal.

During his loan spell under Mikel Arteta, he featured in 28 matches across all competitions, scoring once and assisting five times. However, Arsenal chose not to make the move permanent.

Now back at Chelsea, the club appears eager to part ways with him. Sterling is currently training separately from Enzo Maresca’s first-team squad, while interest grows from several clubs.

According to talkSPORT, Crystal Palace are among those interested, as are Italian giants Juventus. However, Fulham seem to be leading the chase. FourFourTwo reports that Sterling is in discussions with Marco Silva’s side about a potential transfer to Craven Cottage, ahead of their Premier League opener against Brighton.

What has Enzo Maresca said about Sterling?

Shortly before Sterling joined Arsenal on loan, Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca offered a candid view of the player’s future.

“I’m not saying Raheem lacks quality, but I prefer a different profile of winger,” Maresca stated after leaving Sterling out of Chelsea’s opening fixture against Manchester City.

He added, “I spoke to Raheem privately the day before the City match and explained the situation. I haven’t seen him since.”

At the time, both Sterling and Ben Chilwell were training separately from the main squad, with Maresca noting that their situations were “quite clear” and unchanged.

Maresca continued: “If I were to speak with Raheem again, I’d repeat exactly what I’ve already said. There’s nothing new to add—I was very clear with him from the beginning.”
