Paul Scholes Tips Liverpool to Make Surprise Move for Marc Guehi
Liverpool may already be turning heads with a blockbuster transfer window, but according to one Manchester United legend, there’s still one perfect signing left to make — and it’s not the name fans are expecting.
Speaking on The Overlap, Paul Scholes has endorsed a shock move for Crystal Palace centre-back Marc Guehi, calling the England international a “perfect fit” for Arne Slot’s emerging Liverpool side ahead of the 2025/26 season.
🛑 Not Isak. Not a Forward. A Defender.
While most of the summer transfer talk around Anfield has revolved around attacking firepower — including the headline-grabbing pursuit of Alexander Isak — Scholes believes the Reds need to focus on the other end of the pitch.
“Palace fans might not like it, but Guehi would be absolutely perfect,” Scholes said. “You’re looking at a £50 million price tag even with his contract winding down, but for me, he’s worth it.”
With Jeremie Frimpong, Milos Kerkez, and Giorgi Mamardashvili already joining the club to reinforce the backline, Scholes sees Guehi as the final piece of Liverpool’s defensive rebuild.
🚨 Why Guehi Makes Sense for Liverpool
Liverpool have already waved goodbye to Trent Alexander-Arnold and Jarell Quansah, leaving some depth concerns at the back. Meanwhile, Ibrahima Konaté’s contract runs out in 2026, and rumors of interest from Real Madrid are gaining momentum.
Scholes believes the club must prepare now — and Guehi, a composed, left-sided centre-back with Premier League and international pedigree, ticks all the boxes.
⚽ Guehi’s Rise to the Top
A graduate of Chelsea’s academy, Marc Guehi gained experience during two standout loan spells at Swansea City before making a permanent switch to Crystal Palace in 2021.
Since then, he’s become a cornerstone of the Eagles’ defense, racking up over 150 appearances and more than 20 England caps. Known for his calmness under pressure, positional awareness, and leadership qualities, Guehi has captained Palace on several occasions and become a fan favourite at Selhurst Park.
🔥 Ready for the Big Six?
With proven consistency in the Premier League and at international level, Guehi looks primed for the next step in his career. Whether it’s Liverpool or another member of the Big Six, it’s clear that his time at Palace may be nearing an end.
The only question now: Will Liverpool make their move before someone else does
