Manchester United reportedly feel that they have managed to get the next Mohamed Salah after a £70 million transfer.
In the 2024/25 season, Mohamed Salah stood head and shoulders above the competition, topping both the goal-scoring and assist charts while leading Liverpool to Premier League glory.
The Egyptian forward netted 29 goals and provided 18 assists in what was an outstanding individual campaign.
Meanwhile, Manchester United struggled through a challenging season but are working tirelessly to strengthen Ruben Amorim’s squad.
So far, they have secured signings such as Matheus Cunha, Bryan Mbeumo, and Diego Leon. The Red Devils are also nearing an agreement for RB Leipzig striker Benjamin Šeško and are monitoring Brighton midfielder Carlos Baleba.
Fresh from securing the £70 million signing of Brentford star Bryan Mbeumo — who racked up 20 goals and nine assists in 42 appearances across all competitions last season — Manchester United are brimming with optimism.
According to the Daily Mail, statistical analysis suggests Mbeumo is the closest player to Mohamed Salah currently available.
The outlet reported: “United also reject claims that Mbeumo and Cunha were brought in solely to fill the two No. 10 roles in Amorim’s 3-4-2-1 setup, insisting both are adaptable enough to thrive in any system. Data on Mbeumo, in particular, shows United have acquired the nearest equivalent to Salah without actually signing the Liverpool star.”
Ruben Amorim praised Bryan Mbeumo’s Manchester United debut, saying he performed well and highlighted his quick link-up play and ability to open space with his first touch.
Amorim noted that Mbeumo still needs to fully grasp the position and movement patterns, and while he isn’t yet at peak physical fitness, his frequent runs helped stretch the opposition. The manager concluded that Mbeumo delivered exactly what he had anticipated.
United kick off their Premier League campaign next weekend against Arsenal at Old Trafford.
