Fabrizio Romano has dropped a fresh update on the future of Newcastle star Alexander Isak as the saga surrounding the Swede’s potential move to Liverpool continues.
Alexander Isak returned to Newcastleโs training ground earlier this week after missing the clubโs pre-season tour of Asia, but he has yet to rejoin first-team training.
Liverpool recently had a ยฃ110 million bid rejected for the 25-year-oldโwell below Newcastleโs reported ยฃ150 million valuationโand have yet to submit an improved offer.
On Saturday, The Telegraphโs Luke Edwards reported that Newcastle had told Isak he would not be sold to Liverpool this summer. However, the situation appears to have shifted. Transfer insider Fabrizio Romano, speaking on his YouTube channel, claimed the deal remains โabsolutely on, absolutely concrete and absolutely likely.โ
โAlexander Isak wants to go to Liverpool,โ Romano said. โHe doesnโt want to extend his contract. He wants Liverpool and Liverpool want him. Newcastle havenโt closed the doorโitโs still an open story.โ
Manager Eddie Howe also addressed the strikerโs future after Newcastleโs 2-0 defeat to Atlรฉtico Madrid in their final pre-season friendly. While insisting Isak still has a place at the club, Howe suggested the situation must be resolved before he can reintegrate the Swede into the squad.
โHe is here, so of course he has a future at Newcastle,โ Howe said. โWeโd love to have him back with the team, but the situation has to be right for that to happen. He doesnโt have a fitness issue. Iโm aware of a feeling within the squad that thereโs something there not to the benefit of the group.โ
With tensions in the dressing room and Liverpool maintaining their pursuit, Isakโs future at St Jamesโ Park remains uncertain as the new season approaches.
