Liverpool break tradition in Community Shield final appearance

Liverpool End Two-Decade All-Red Tradition in Community Shield

Liverpool marked a break from tradition in the Community Shield final, facing Crystal Palace at Wembley without their famous all-red strip for the first time since 2003.

Under new boss Arne Slot, the Reds were chasing a win that would match Arsenalโ€™s 17 titles in the competition, leaving only Manchester United ahead with 21 triumphs.

Liverpool Swap All-Red for New Away Look at Wembley

Liverpool set aside their traditional home colours in the Community Shield, taking to the pitch against Crystal Palace in their freshly launched away stripโ€”light shirts with black shorts. The change, a first since 2003, was quickly picked up by supporters and the media. One popular football Instagram account even highlighted every kit from recent finals, confirming that two decades ago the Reds also stepped out in a non-red outfit, that time in black.

On the field, debutant Hugo Ekitike wasted no time making an impression, showing sharp movement and composure in tight spaces to score a swift opener against Palace.
