Liverpool may have been give a huge boost in their pursuit of Newcastle United star Alexander Isak just days before the Premier League season begins.
With the 2025/26 Premier League season just days away — kicking off with champions Liverpool hosting Bournemouth — transfer negotiations are still in full swing.
The most high-profile ongoing saga involves Newcastle striker Alexander Isak, who has been heavily linked with a move to Anfield throughout the summer. Despite already bringing in Eintracht Frankfurt forward Hugo Ekitike, Liverpool remain keen on the Swedish international, who is currently on strike in an effort to push through the move.
Now, a fresh report suggests there’s been a major development in the Isak situation — and it’s a positive one for Liverpool’s hopes of landing their top target.
The report further claims that Newcastle are ready to offer around €60-65m (£51.7m-£56m)plus bonuses to Porto, but it remains to be seen if this will be enough considering the striker has a €100m (£86.2m) release clause.
However, it’s not all good news as some outlets have claimed that Newcastle’s concerning trend of missing out on their striker targets could be set to continue, due to Aghehowa’s behaivour in the game.
Shortly after scoring his goals, Aghehowa pointed to Porto’s badge and appeared to say ‘I’m staying,’ potentially dealing a major blow to Newcastle and therefore to Liverpool.
Since the start of the transfer window, Newcastle have insisted they have no intention of selling Alexander Isak — unless they first secure a replacement striker.
Several forwards have been linked to the Magpies over the summer, including Joao Pedro and Benjamin Šeško, but no new signing has yet been made in that position.
That could soon change, with multiple Portuguese outlets reporting that Newcastle are preparing to step up their pursuit of FC Porto’s Samu Aghehowa. The 21-year-old made headlines by scoring twice in Porto’s league opener against Vitória Guimarães last weekend.
While O Jogo claims Newcastle have yet to make a formal approach, Jornal de Notícias reports the club are far from giving up, having sent a scout to watch the match — a sign that their interest remains very much alive.
