Arsenal and Tottenham have been given a new deadline to sign Eberechi Eze – with a third club now reportedly involved in the race to sign him.
Over the past three seasons, the 27-year-old has netted 29 Premier League goals, establishing himself as one of the country’s leading attacking midfielders.
He played a pivotal role in Crystal Palace’s FA Cup triumph last season, which secured European qualification for the first time in the club’s history. However, due to a breach of multi-club ownership regulations, the Eagles were moved from the Europa League to the Conference League.
Despite that setback, Palace have so far retained all of their key players. But, according to Fabrizio Romano, Liverpool are now in advanced negotiations to sign club captain Marc Guehi, with a potential transfer fee in the region of £30–35 million.
Marc Guehi’s situation is different from that of Eberechi Eze — the England defender is heading into the final year of his contract, while Eze still has two years remaining on his current deal, which includes a £68 million release clause.
That clause expires on Friday, August 15, giving Arsenal and Tottenham fewer than 48 hours to complete a deal if they want to avoid paying a much higher fee later. However, The Telegraph reports a new twist: Newcastle United have now joined the race for the 27-year-old midfielder. The Magpies are close to signing Jacob Ramsey from Aston Villa, which could temper their pursuit of Eze, but the midfielder might also remain at Crystal Palace at least until after their Conference League third-round qualifiers on August 21 and 28.
From the player’s perspective, there’s no strong indication that he is pushing for a move this summer. Eze joined Palace in 2020 from Queens Park Rangers, earned his first England cap in 2021, and has been a regular under Thomas Tuchel since the start of the year.
According to The Guardian, if a deal were agreed with either Arsenal or Spurs, Eze would prefer a switch to the Gunners — the club where he spent part of his youth career before being released at age 13. He later had stints at Fulham, Reading, and Millwall, but was let go by the Lions at 18 after failing to secure a professional contract.
