Newcastle open door to Alexander Isak scenario that was considered unthinkable in Liverpool boost

Newcastle have opened the door to a previously unconsidered option over Alexander Isak’s future, it has been reported.

Liverpool Keep Eyes on Isak as Transfer Stand-Off Escalates

With just over two weeks left in the transfer window, Liverpool’s pursuit of Alexander Isak is gathering momentum.

According to the Daily Mail’s Craig Hope, the Sweden international is effectively “on strike” at Newcastle and pushing for a move to Anfield. However, prising him away from St James’ Park would require a British-record fee, with Newcastle valuing the 25-year-old at around £150 million.

Isak still has three years remaining on his contract, and Liverpool’s opening £110 million bid earlier this month was swiftly rejected. The Reds have yet to return with an improved offer, but the situation remains fluid.

As the saga drags on, Isak will not be in the squad for Newcastle’s Premier League opener against Aston Villa on Saturday, further fuelling speculation over his future.

Newcastle Weigh Up Isak Replacement Plans as Transfer Saga Drags On

Newcastle reporter Craig Hope claims the Magpies have four possible approaches to resolving Alexander Isak’s future — with one scenario standing out.

Known as “Scenario D,” it would see Newcastle sign a single, direct replacement for Isak rather than bringing in two strikers. Under this plan, the club’s centre-forward options would be the new signing plus Anthony Gordon, who has been used as a striker in pre-season, and youngster William Osula.

Anthony Elanga could also fill in centrally if needed, though the £55 million summer arrival from Nottingham Forest was primarily deployed as a winger or attacking midfielder at his previous club.

Striker Targets
Newcastle are reportedly exploring several options for Isak’s replacement. Portuguese outlet Jornal de Noticias (via Sport Witness) claims the club sent scouts to monitor Porto and Spain forward Samu Aghehowa earlier this week.

They are also pursuing Brentford’s Yoane Wissa, who has just returned to training after a brief absence. Like Isak, Wissa will not feature in his club’s opening Premier League fixture this weekend.

Bees head coach Keith Andrews commented:

“As a head coach, I want Yoane in the building, part of the first team and the squad. I see that moving forwards, but I understand his situation. We have to focus on the players who are ready to play on Sunday, and I don’t think Yoane’s in that space.”
