Ben Doak Pulled from Liverpool Squad as £25m Bournemouth Move Nears
Liverpool’s opening-day clash with Bournemouth has taken an unexpected twist — Ben Doak has been withdrawn from the matchday squad, with a transfer to the Cherries edging closer.
According to Paul Joyce, Bournemouth are finalising a £25m deal for the 19-year-old winger, signed from Celtic in 2022 for just £600k. The move would represent a huge profit for the Reds, though it remains unclear if a buy-back clause will be included given Doak’s high rating within the club.
Doak has made ten senior appearances for Liverpool and caught the eye on loan at Middlesbrough last season, recording 10 goal contributions in 24 games before a hamstring injury cut his campaign short. His pace and direct style had also drawn interest from West Ham, Rangers, and former club Celtic, but Bournemouth now look set to win the race.
If the deal is sealed swiftly, Doak could be watching tonight’s fixture from the stands — with his current and future clubs facing each other at Anfield.
The sale would also boost Liverpool’s transfer budget as they chase further signings, including Marc Guehi and Alexander Isak, after already landing Florian Wirtz, Hugo Ekitike, and Jeremie Frimpong this summer.
Should a buy-back clause be added, a future Anfield return for Doak remains possible. For now, all eyes are on whether the teenager’s next chapter begins with the team he’s about to face.
