Newcastle could suffer new transfer window blow on top of Alexander Isak saga

Newcastle United face a fresh transfer setback as Alexander Isak’s future continues to rumble on this summer.

Newcastle Rocked as Isak Goes on Strike and Man City Circle for Livramento

The Alexander Isak transfer saga has dominated headlines this summer, with the Swedish striker pushing for a blockbuster move to Liverpool. His frustration has boiled over, as he sat out Newcastle United’s Premier League opener against Aston Villa on Saturday after reportedly going on strike.

In Isak’s absence, Anthony Gordon was deployed as a central striker at Villa Park. The winger impressed in the role, drawing Ezri Konsa’s red card during a tense 0-0 draw. Speaking to TNT Sports post-match, Gordon addressed his performance while Newcastle fans interrupted with chants mocking Isak’s ongoing standoff.

Manager Eddie Howe also addressed the issue after the game, admitting the situation has become a distraction:

“I hope it’s resolved quickly, because it’s news around us all the time,” Howe said. “Players have managed to shut that out and perform. We have to continue to do that.”

Transfer Deadline Looms

With the transfer window closing on September 1, Newcastle face the possibility of losing not just Isak but also another prized asset.

According to reports, Manchester City are closely monitoring right-back Tino Livramento as they search for a long-term successor to Kyle Walker, who officially departed the Etihad this summer after a loan spell at AC Milan.

City’s interest could hinge on the future of Rico Lewis, who is attracting serious attention from Nottingham Forest. Forest have already struck a deal for City academy graduate James McAtee and now want to add Lewis to their ranks.

Should Lewis leave, City are expected to accelerate a move for Livramento. The Times previously reported that Pep Guardiola’s side are willing to offer £65 million for the 22-year-old, though Newcastle are preparing a new contract to fend off interest.

A Nervy End to the Window

The prospect of losing both Isak and Livramento would be a devastating blow for Eddie Howe as he looks to build on last season’s progress. With Liverpool circling for their top striker and Manchester City potentially testing Newcastle’s resolve again, the coming weeks could define the club’s campaign before a ball has even been fully kicked.
