Liverpool Receive Transfer Boost in Pursuit of Alexander Isak as Newcastle Edges Toward Agreement
Liverpool’s hopes of landing Alexander Isak have been lifted after journalist Craig Hope delivered a significant update on the striker’s future.
The Swedish forward has been heavily linked with a blockbuster move to Anfield as the new Premier League season got underway last weekend.
Liverpool kicked off their campaign in style with a 4-2 win over Bournemouth, while Newcastle played out a 0-0 draw with Aston Villa. Notably, Isak was absent from the Magpies’ trip to Villa Park — a decision that sparked chants from Newcastle’s away supporters.
Both clubs remain active in the transfer market ahead of next month’s deadline. For Arne Slot, strengthening his attack is a priority after sanctioning the departures of Luis Díaz and Darwin Núñez. Isak has emerged as a prime target to bolster Liverpool’s frontline options.
On the other side, Eddie Howe is also pushing for reinforcements. Newcastle have already added Jacob Ramsey from Aston Villa — a move that reportedly left Tyrone Mings and John McGinn frustrated.
With Newcastle “hopeful” of striking an agreement, Liverpool’s pursuit of Isak could be entering a decisive phase in the final weeks of the window.
Both Arne Slot and Eddie Howe could yet secure their transfer targets before the September 1 deadline.
Journalist Craig Hope reports that Newcastle remain in active talks for Brentford star Yoane Wissa and are “hopeful of striking an agreement once discussions resume.” In addition, the Magpies are also monitoring Paris Saint-Germain striker Gonçalo Ramos as a potential option.
Should Newcastle succeed in bringing in Wissa — and possibly Ramos — the likelihood of Alexander Isak leaving St. James’ Park this summer would significantly increase, paving the way for Liverpool’s pursuit.
On X, journalist Craig Hope revealed the latest on Newcastle’s transfer stance, writing:
“Newcastle remain focused on a deal for Yoane Wissa, with the next 24 hours expected to be crucial. Over the weekend, word emerged that Brentford were holding firm at a £50m valuation — and reports today suggest that figure has risen to £60m. NUFC will not go that high, with PIF unwilling to sanction such numbers, but the club remain hopeful of finding an agreement as talks resume today.
“The plan all summer has been to bring in two strikers before considering an Alexander Isak sale. Gonçalo Ramos remains on the list of alternatives. However, if the Wissa move collapses, the chances of Isak leaving diminish considerably. Newcastle have waited this long knowing Wissa’s desire to join, but a resolution one way or another is now essential.”
